The Staunton Housing Corporation develops and supports initiatives that expand affordable housing opportunities, strengthen neighborhoods, and improve quality of life. Our work pairs quality housing with wrap-around services that help residents build stability and long-term independence.

Housing

Affordable Housing Development SHC develops, acquires, rehabilitates, and preserves affordable housing that provides safe, quality homes for individuals, families, seniors, and veterans. Every project is guided by a commitment to long-term sustainability, thoughtful design, and community need.

Historic Preservation Historic buildings are an important part of our community's identity. SHC works to preserve and revitalize historic properties by transforming them into affordable housing while maintaining their architectural character and cultural significance.

Homeownership Initiatives SHC supports initiatives that expand access to affordable homeownership by creating pathways for individuals and families to build equity, achieve stability, and invest in their future.

Community Development Housing is the foundation of a thriving community. SHC partners with local governments, nonprofit organizations, financial institutions, and private developers to advance projects that promote neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and lasting community investment.

Veteran Housing SHC is committed to expanding supportive housing opportunities for veterans through strategic partnerships and housing developments that provide safe, stable homes for those who have served our country.

Wrap-Around Services

Food Pantry In partnership with Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, SHC provides access to nutritious food for residents and neighbors facing food insecurity, helping households meet a basic need and freeing up limited income for rent, utilities, and other essentials. Information about the food pantry can be found here.

Youth Tutoring Program In partnership with Staunton City Schools, SHC supports a tutoring program that helps local students build academic skills and confidence, investing in the next generation and strengthening the whole community.

Eviction Prevention In partnership with the Community Foundation of Central Blue Ridge, SHC helps households stay stably housed through eviction prevention support, working to keep families in their homes and avoid the lasting disruption that displacement causes.

Workforce Training SHC connects residents to workforce training and education that build skills, expand employment opportunities, and create pathways to greater financial independence.

Financial Literacy In partnership with Atlantic Union Bank, SHC offers financial literacy education that helps residents build budgeting skills, savings habits, and the financial confidence needed for long-term stability and homeownership.
