Our Story
The Staunton Housing Corporation (SHC) was created to expand what's
possible in affordable housing across Staunton and the Shenandoah Valley. As

We believe housing is the foundation of opportunity. Every project we take on is guided by a simple conviction: that where people live shapes how they live — and that strong, stable neighborhoods are built home by home, partnership by partnership.
Our Mission
The primary purpose of the Staunton Housing Corporation is to support the mission and programs of the SRHA and to further the economic development of the community — including the elimination of blight and deterioration and the promotion of economic and housing opportunities. Through strategic partnerships and asset development, SHC focuses on long-term affordable housing development, historic preservation, and homeownership initiatives that expand affordable housing opportunities beyond traditional rental assistance.

A Shenandoah Valley where every household has access to a safe, stable, affordable place to call home, and where thoughtful development strengthens the character and future of the communities we serve.
What Sets Us Apart
A Trusted Nonprofit Structure As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a Virginia nonstock nonprofit corporation, and a Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development Certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), SHC meets the highest standards for accountability, stewardship, and community-based development.
A Public Purpose Partnership As the nonprofit affiliate of SRHA, SHC extends the Authority's mission — pairing public-purpose commitment with the flexibility to pursue historic preservation, adaptive reuse, homeownership, and mixed-financing developments that expand the region's housing supply.
